How to Purchase a Hook Loader System

When looking to purchase a hook loader, whether new or used, there are several pitfalls to avoid in your search. At Ampliroll® USA, we take the time to ensure you leave with the right product on the right truck, and with everything in place to enable you to perform your job with utmost efficiency.
Pitfall #1: Not fully specifying your needs:
Regardless of the circumstances, it’s essential to specify your requirements and accept no substitutes from your chosen vendor. When searching for your hook loader equipment, the first step we take with you is to make sure you have the following chassis requirements at hand:
- GVW
- Axle ratings
- Engine requirement
- Transmission requirements
- CA or CT requirements
- Length of bodies you will be using
- Materials you will generally be carrying
“It’s important that you go into detail when specifying your chassis transmission type.
You should always require a 3000RDS transmission, which can operate the hydraulics while in motion, whereas the less common 2500 Allison does not.”
—Mike Forsyth, Sales and Operations Expert, Ampliroll® USA
Pitfall #2 – Not pairing the right hook loader for your current truck and working conditions:
Many people have purchased a complete truck & hook loader system from a supplier only to arrive on the job site and realize it’s not what they needed or can work with – you never want to find yourself in this situation! For example, it’s a given that some light-duty chassis are not available with the so-called live PTO (Power Take-Off) option, which supplies hydraulic power to the hooklift system. Therefore, the use of a hook loader system will always involve a compromise in this situation.
At Ampliroll® USA, we will not sell you something that is not right for your truck or expected workload. Our General Manager and installer, Andy Jansma, has extensive experience in pairing the right equipment for our customers. We will work with you from start to finish, ensuring you drive away with confidence in your purchase.
Pitfall #3 – Over or under-buying your hook loader system:
When selecting a loader system, ensure it is compatible with the chassis that will carry it. Attention must be paid to having the right size hook loader installed on your chassis to meet your specific requirements. Failing to consider this will result in equipment failures and frequent overweight situations. Always size your hook loader to the chassis without exceptions.
At Ampliroll® USA, we conduct a weight study on the chassis/hook loader combination you are considering purchasing. This will provide you with precise information regarding your axle loading, maximum allowable payload, and weight distribution.
Remember, to avoid the pit in “Pitfalls,” the best way to purchase your equipment is to be an informed buyer and work with the most experienced manufacturer/dealer that can answer all the hard questions that need to be addressed.
